Meet Alex
Alex Armstrong is running for Board of Alderman because he believes our community deserves leadership that understands our rich history and will work for a brighter future.
Deep Roots in Milford
Alex grew up right here in the 5th District, and he spent his childhood visiting Milford's beautiful beaches, exploring Eisenhower Park, and visiting Downtown with friends. He attended Orange Avenue, Harborside, and Foran, experiencing firsthand the quality public education that makes Milford special.
After completing his bachelor's degree at Georgetown University with a double major in Government and History and a minor in Spanish, Alex earned his master's in Political Science from Yale University, where he was certified with distinction in American Politics. He and his wife are now proud to be raising two daughters here: one already enrolled in Milford Public Schools with the other soon to follow.
Commitment to Community Service
Alex's dedication to Milford extends through consistent service in various capacities:
- Current Vice Chairman of the Milford Sewer Commission, working to ensure reliable infrastructure for residents
- Former member of the Milford Pension Board, helping manage one of the largest pension funds in the state
- Member of the Friends of Milford Library, supporting one of the community's most vital resources
- Member of the Milford Irish Heritage Society, a cultural and social hub and host of some great local events
Professional Experience
Alex brings valuable experience from both the private and nonprofit sectors. He was employed at public affairs and consulting firms before moving to full-time nonprofit work, and he currently serves as Vice President of External Affairs at a global nonprofit organization.
His extensive work in conservation nonprofits reflects his deep commitment to environmental stewardship, a value that aligns perfectly with Milford's natural beauty and our responsibility to preserve it for future generations. From his time in the nonprofit sector, Alex also understands the importance of careful budgeting and how to make every dollar count.
Vision for Milford's Future
Alex believes Milford needs a new generation of leadership that prioritizes:
- Responsible budgeting and economic development that grows the tax base while maintaining fiscal discipline
- Delivering high-quality city services that residents can count on
- Addressing the cost-of-living crisis affecting seniors, families, and residents throughout the community
- Preservation of open spaces that make Milford such a special place to live and raise a family
Alex can frequently be found playing basketball, sampling Milford's excellent coffee spots and pizza restaurants, or exploring Milford with his wife, daughters, and their dog Hugo.
Alex is running for Board of Alderman because he wants to ensure that future generations of Milford families have the same opportunities to thrive in this remarkable City.
